Marjon Nijland

Marjon Nijland’s figurative oil painting on canvas in her studio in Bergen NH, Holland. In her first years as an artist, she focused on the techniques of old masters oil paintings such as Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt van Rijn and Gustave Courbet. This technique is based on different layers and shadows for stratification in a portrait or nude.
The game of "light and dark" recurrent in the paintings by Rembrandt have always fascinated and inspired her.
In her new works, you can see that she has taken a new path by using classical oil techniques to transpose to contemporary compositions.
A characteristic of her paintings is that the subjects stick out of the frames.
